As a newly married couple, George and Gertrude
moved into a small home. Gertrude put a shoe box on the shelf and asked George never to
touch it.
For nearly fifty years George left the box
alone. One day he realized they were getting up in years and needed to get their
affairs in order.
While in the process of searching for
important documents, he found the shoe box. George decided there might be something
important in the box so he opened it.
Inside he found two doilies and $82,000 in
cash. He took the box to Gertrude and asked about the contents.
Gertrude said, "My mother gave me that
box on the day we were married". She told me to make a doily every time I
got mad at you.
George was very touched that she had only
been mad at him two times in almost 50 years. Then George asked, "What's the $82,000
for?".
Gertrude said, "
Oh, that's the money I made selling the doilies".
