
Almond Applesauce Bread
A hearty winter loaf, spicy and sprinkled with almonds.
Just the thing for breakfast on a chilly morning.
2 Cups Flour
3/4 Cup Sugar
3 teas. Watkins
Baking Powder
1 teas. Salt
1/2 teas. Baking Soda
1/2 teas. Cardamom
1/2 teas. Watkins
Cinnamon
1 Egg, beaten, at room temperature
1 Cup Applesauce, at room temperature
3 Tbsp. Shortening, melted
1 5-oz. Can Diced Toasted Almonds
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9-inch loaf pan or
two 6-inch or 8-inch pans with Watkins Cooking Spray. Mix and
sift dry ingredients. Measure and reserve three tablespoons almonds; stir remainder into
flour mixture. Combine egg and applesauce; stir in melted shortening. Gradually add dry
ingredients and stir until well blended. Do not overmix! Pour into pan(s). Sprinkle
reserved almonds over batter. Bake for one hour, until a tester inserted in the center
comes out clean.
