Spicy Cheese Straws
2 Packages (8 Oz. / 227 g) Refrigerated Crescent Roll
Dough
1 Tbsp. / 15 ml Watkins
Paprika
1/2 teas. / 2.5 ml Watkins
Thyme
3/4 teas. / 4 ml Watkins
Cajun Pepper
1/4 teas. / 1.2 ml Watkins
Garlic Granules
1/4 teas. / 1.2 ml Freshly Ground Watkins Sea Salt
1 Large Egg White, slightly beaten
1 Cup / 250 ml Finely Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
1/4 Cup / 60 ml Grated Parmesan Cheese
Unroll one can of crescent roll dough and place on
lightly floured surface. Press perforations to seal. With floured rolling pin roll dough
out into a 12 inch/30 cm square. Combine paprika, thyme, Cajun pepper, garlic granules and
salt; mix well. Spray 2 large cookie sheets with Watkins Cooking Spray. Lightly brush
dough with beaten egg white. Sprinkle with half of spice mixture and half of cheeses. With
rolling pin, lightly roll cheeses and spice into dough. Fold dough over to cover cheese,
forming a rectangle about 12 x 6 inch/30 x 15 cm. Lightly roll with rolling pin to seal
layers. With pizza cutter or knife, cut pastry into 1/2 inch/2.5 cm strips. Place strips
1/2 inch/2.5 cm apart on prepared baking sheets, twisting each strip and pressing ends
against cookie sheet to prevent uncurling. Bake at 375 F / 190 C for 12 to 15 minutes or
until golden. Remove to wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining can of dough, egg, spice
mixture and cheeses. (Makes 48 cheese straws, 2 per serving).
