Sage

Sage is an herb from an evergreen shrub that is part of the mint family. It has been used in the past by Greeks and Romans as a cure for snake bites. In the Middle Ages, it was used as a tea to treat colds, fevers, liver ailments and more. While it is no longer used medicinally today, it is a very popular herb for cooking especially in stuffings.

It is used to flavor pork and turkey and is a major ingredient in holiday cooking. It makes a wonderful marinade for chicken or pork when mixed with grapeseed oil and vinegar. Since it blends well with rosemary, thyme, parsley, oregano and bay leaf, it is often used as part of a poultry seasoning blend. It will also perk up the flavor of soups and stews.
